On startup.
« on: 05 February 2005, 23:48 »
Hi everyone.
I have a Mk2 88 golf gti 16v, I have just done a oil/filter change and also added Slick50, now for some unknown reason everytime I start her up, she rev's to about 2000 rev's and the tappits rattle like buggery, why is this, only thing i touched on the service was a pipe running from the air inlet tube to a pipe coming over the inlet manifold, I disconnected to get to the oil filler cap easier, ok I did forget to put it back on and in which case it wouldnt start till I remembered.

If I have done something wrong please say, I do remember that there was some numbers on this pipe or plastic tube that the pipe went onto (maybe nothing).

Also for someunknown reason when i bought the car the central locking stopped working, it unlocks/locks the drivers door but no the passenger door or boot, weird!!, now after I had put it into a garage to get my brakes done, it was working, weirder!! (but cool), now when I did this oil change it doesnt work again, ok its more than likely just coincidence, but anybody got any idea what it could be, it must because it did for a while.

Ok think thats it

Not sure about the idle, sounds like a vacuum leak have a close look at all the tubes to make sure there arn't any disconnected or any splits.

As for the central locking, sounds like the pump in the boot isn't working or one of the pipes has split.  Sounds more like an electrical prob as it started working on its own.  Check the wiring through the rubber bellows between the drivers door and body.

Does the standard MK2 central locking use the earth point in the boot on the left side?  If so pull the carpet/remove the boot card and check the wires are in good nick and the screw is tight.
