I don't see the point of putting a GTI engine into a standard Golf when you can buy a GTI Golf. If you are going to do an engine swap, then make it one that does not come as standard. As already mentioned, 1.8 turbo, VR6 etc.
Also dont forget, you are putting in an engine to make it go, you also need to change things to make it stop so a brake upgrade is a must, plus having a high powered car with good stopping power needs suspention to be able to cope. See where I am going with this? If you are going to do a job, do it properly and be prepared to spend money. Money you said in your first post that you don't have. You need to plan a project like this.
