Steering - a little off...
« on: 05 November 2010, 09:58 »
My steering wheel is a little off track, the steering wheel is just slightly off when the car is going straight, is this something i can sort out myself? or do i need to take it into a garage or dealership?

Sounds like your tracking is out

Take it somewhere which can do the full range of adjustment

Best not to delay 'cause tyres might be scrubbing.

I took mine for a full alignment yesterday.

The very best £120 I have ever spent on a car - and I've owned many and spent plenty.

It made the car feel brand new.
Amazing.

I only took it there because the steering wheel was 2' off centre, and the steering felt a little bit choppy.
Now it is perfect!

Yep, it isn't cheap, but is amazing.
The golf has a live rear axle, so it can be fully adjusted so it steers perfectly.

Just check the tyre pressures aren't way off as that can cause the same issue.

Best to get it checked out and sorted. But just because the steering wheel isn't straight dosnt mean the tracking is out. Does it drive in a straight line without you haveing to keep it straight? I get alot of cars in for tracking issues when the steering wheel is not straight and it's because the front tyres are worn funny even though they look fine and if you swap them side to side the steering wheel is then out in the other direction and it's down to the tyres and no amount of setting up will get rid of that. Just a thought
