Excessive Smoke GT TDi 150
« on: 04 November 2010, 15:35 »
Hello,

My first post and I have a query, sorry.

My lass had a problem one morning where the car wasn't starting, RAC came out and had a look, and mentioned the reason for this was because the little fella [see photos] was stuck.. once the little pin/lever was moved/freed, the car started.

Since then, she/we have noticed alot more black smoke from the exhaust whilst accelerating, and also poor... well I say poor 35mpg with very careful driving [normally 45+]

Is this all a result of a faulty part, if so.. what is it, Air Flow Meter?

Looks a bit like a turbo actuator to me.

The bit you've circled is the EGR valve / anti-shudder valve

Turbo actuator is situated further down under the car

Did wonder as never actually seen one of these engines in the flesh.

In that case, cheap and cheerful fix. Get a uprated one if possible, bit more pricey, but don't go wrong quite so easily.

Alternatively, take it off and give it a damn good clean.

EGR is over £170 from VW

EGR Delete pipe is what you need :afro:

Or you can have the one that's sat in my shed    Its off my 130 but it may fit the 150  :undecided:

That will most likely be the delete pipe then which removes the valve entirely  :nerd:

And yeah I had to bite the bullet on the EGR as the pipe blew off and shattered the housing
