high mileage 16v's any good?

I've got a mk3 gti 8v and im thinking of changing to the mk2 16v in the early part of next year, i will have about 2k to spend and was wondering if i cant find a decent mileage one, would a high flyer do!? Im pretty sure you guys can help me out here  :smiley:!

It depends how high milage. Eventually the rings will go. If its had rings done and regular services I shouldn't see y not. In my opinion the valvers are bullet proof.

well 100 thousand plus i think maybe be even up to 150  :huh:...

100k is low mileage  :grin:

Mines done 159,000 and still feels as tight as a drum.

It has only had one previous owner, and he bought it new when he was 40, so I guess it being looked after goes a long way.

Mines got 176k and still has the original engine and is a seriously rapid car and dosnt smoke or complain at all,it gets an oil service every 6 months no matter what the milage and gets a new cambelt every 40k and has nothing but optimax put in it,if you look after it it will look after you  :wink:

Wow man! I've just got the task of finding one with a service history now :undecided:! I always look after my cars but it's what's happened to it before is what's the problem. Maybe finding one with a rebuilt motor in?
