HID conversion mk5 gti
« on: 01 November 2010, 21:15 »
Hello

I'm new round here and only collected my golf gti ('05) today.

I wanted to convert the standard bulbs to xenons and have seen a variety of options out there on t'internet.

Can anybody recommend a conversion kit (perhaps off fleabay). Obviously I don't want to spend a fortune on it, but do want the right look and functionality as a standard.

Thank you

Hi and welcome,

Are you aware of the legal aspects you'll need to conform to such as headlight washers, auto-levelling, projector lenses, E marking etc?  It's not a cheap modification to make if you wish to keep your car legal.

If I were you I'd buy decent bulbs like Nightbreakers as a quick cheap fix

Or get a set of H7 anti glare 6000K Xenon's and fit them to your standard black GT lights with white LED side lights!

Anti glare so they do not blind other road user's and looks awesome!

Correct me if im wrong but iv seen this topic on another forum and if they are fitted from facotry they need all the auto leveling and washers and stuff but if retrofitted as long as they are at the correct legal level there is no problem....

as above you need self levelling on rear axel etc and yes you can retro fit, but it will cost you a small fortune, for little benefit, i.e. when you sell you will never get your money back.

Retrofitted will need all the things you mentioned to make them legal.
