Looks a good deal.....?
« on: 29 October 2010, 12:34 »
Hi All,

I've been scouring the usual places for a well specced used MK6 GTI 5dr in Pearl Black  for a while but have yet to come across something in budget (£23,000) and within a couple of hours travel of Chelmsford. I did however come across this R today which is tempting me to raid the kids money box. It seems a little basic with only the paint and RCD510 as options. At £25,990 it seems like a good deal although I suspect you guys probably have a more learned opinion??

I would go for the GTI in my opinion...... its an all round better car and your get more spec for your money @ £23K. I wouldn't rule out one of those oil burning things as well..... I think they call them GTD's

Alas no although the test drive was good fun! The car was obviously quick, planted and a nice place to be but just not for me. The price was spot on (Abridge Harlow- refreshingly straight forward sales folk) although it needed a better spec being standard albeit paint and RCD510. Having driven both the Mk6 GTI (both manual and DSG) and now the R, for me the latter makes more sense with DSG but the feeling of "driver reward" is so much more apparent in the manual GTI. Not wanting to upset any R owners (and this is purely personal preference) for me enjoying a car is about on-limit playfulness and "getting it right", the GTI just does this better given the limit is more within the confines of my talent. Still searching all the usual places for the GTI so might as well mention my desired spec on the off chance it stokes some interest.

Cheers
