running problems golf 3 gti
« on: 26 October 2010, 19:44 »
Hi all,
Dont know if anyone can help but here goes. I fixed an oil leak from filter housing while laying under the car looking for the leak the engine cut out but restarted. Went out in the car and after about 40 miles it cut out again, when restarted it would only rev to about 2500/3000rpms i got the car home by recovery truck then started to look for problem found that i had no spark and found some wires that were bear and touching together so replaced the crank sensor and car started first turn of key, went out for test drive and again about 40 miles and cut out let it cool down and drove home. went and got dissy cap, rotor, plugs and new oil pressure switches. went for a drive 40 mile and cut out again i noticed this time that the rev counter is just dropping from where it is to nothing felt the coil and it was to hot to touch, so i got new coil pack and fitted it then gess what!!!!!!!!! yes thats right 40 miles cut out. Its starting to get expensive now parts are not cheep here.
So any help pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
Keith.

ouch, shouldnt be that then! i bought cheepy one off ebay and it did the same as what you describe. have you had the car checked on vag-com yet?  also when it cuts out, do the dash warning lights come on immediately, and do you hear the fuel pump run on for a few seconds?

so when the car cuts out the dash warning light for battery and oil dont come on straight away? if so this means your car is loosing ignition power. check ignition switch and the black wire from the switch to the fusebox for damage/dodgy splicing

Quick update on pooooooorrr running.

LSIT OF PARTS SO FAR
Oil switches x2
Coil pack
Relays No 30 and 197
Crank sensor (speed sensor)
Plugs x4
Dissy cap
Rotor arm
Oil and filter
Removed dissy and cleaned and looked at hall sensor looks fairly new (looks like someone has been there b4 me wonder if this is why they sold car)
Checked all fuses (clean and none blown)

The problem has got worse now cold as well as hot the car ticks over just fine but when you rev fast it cuts out but rev it slowly it revs out.
Also can anyone tell me should the ecu and fuel pump relays be getting hot?
Many thanks for looking.
Keith.
