problem after changing headgasket (timing)

idle stabiliser valve on top of rocker cover with a pipe going into inlet.
Soak it in carb cleaner with the ignition on

idle sorted thanks rubjonny it was the plug behind tb

and i think you were right weazgti the bottom hose gets warm very soon after the engine is started and if i leave the engine idling then the temp eventually rises. can someone tell me were the thermostate is located?

and i sorted the fan as well, the previous owner ran a wire from the ignition strait to the fan so it would come on as soon as the ignition was turned on.

thermostat is in the plastic housing at the bottom of the waterpump, follow the bottom rqadiator hose you;ll find it. check the system as per the coolant guide in the mk2 maintenance section

cheers mate all sorted now, stat in and temp goes up to center and stays there only thing is the oil temp now goes over 100, i saw it at 106 and i wasnt exactly driving fast is this normal? it stayed arround 80-90 before.

yeah thats just fine, if it gets to 120 with normal driving you should start worrying!
