150PD - Cough

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what this problem might be:

Have a 150Pd as the title says and I've noticed over the last week that it appears to cough when I put my foot down. Not the best description I know but to explain a bit further, today was tootling along at 40mph in 4th in traffic, the traffic accelerated gently up to 50mph and so did I but the car just lurched like the engine had died but then accelerated normally and it didn't happen again the entire journey, this obviously happens in a split second and the car doesn't die.

It's almost although it's not always getting fuel when I ask for it, I don't have a pattern to make the car do it its just every now and then, there's no loss in performance, it never fails to start and no warning lights come on. the car has full service history and isn't due for a service for 10,000 miles.

Any ideas?

Maybe try changing fuel filter, make sure its a genuine one, otherwise could be the start of the maf meter on the way out.

Thanks Alex, the fuel filter is the easiest to change so will try that first but just out interest is there any way to test the MAF?

You need VAGCOM and have to do live logging.

I've changed the fuel filter but it has made very little difference! One thing I have noticed is sometimes when the car is idling the revs creep up without the accelerator being touched, sometimes it can creep up about 300-400rpm then just drops back to idle. Would this indicate an issue with the MAF?

Don't have Vag-com, are there any forum users near Crewe or Stoke-on-Trent who would be willing to scan it or do live logging for some beer tokens?

Benylin didn't work hence the post ;

MAF = Ok this I think is possible but as we all know it's a spendy item to change unless you are 100% its knackered!

Coolant Sensor = Ok this is a new one to me, whats the problems with this and what symptons does it cause? Presume there are one for the level in the expansion tank and one that sends info to the guage, guage reads 90 all day long so will this rule out this?

Boost Leak = Can't find any despite everyone saying the car is noisier than most. Might try clamping every single rubbish clip I can find!!!! Arrrggghhh

MAP Sensor = Sorry to be dim peeps but WTF is one of these and again what are the symptons?

Drop Neil (old_no7) a PM or email mate

He lives in the Stoke area and has VAGCOM.  Would be worth a beer token or two to see if he can find any fault codes / do some logging to help determine what might be wrong before you go spending your hard earned

Deffo get it looked at before you chuck money at it, I chucked money on car from self diagnosing and made no difference.

As others have said deffo get it scanned and a loggin session would do you good to point to the problem.
