GTD First service / inspection - when ?
« on: 20 October 2010, 08:26 »
Does anyone know when first service is due on Mk6 GTD. The one I'm getting is 11 months old with 14k miles. For purposes of negotiating with dealer (non-VW) what would approx cost of that first service be if one is indeed due ?

Strictly speaking, its probably on a long life service schedule, aint no  way mine was going 19/20k on the same oil from new !!

I did my own oil change at 5k, then VW service at 10k.

If the previous owner bought the 3 services for £250 from VW, then it may well have been done at 10k. Prices for sevices vary with dealerships, give your local a call, I wouldnt accept the current owner/garage doing the service for you, you need the VW stamp in the book...but I`m sure you know that

You need to look at the sticker on the first page of the service schedule book the other half of this sticker is on the boot floor. It will depend on what has been set from the factory. If it shows QG1 is the shorter 10,000 miles and the QG2 is longlife 20,000 miles service in the UK. If you only do low mileage short runs then you are better having the 10k service. The dealer can reset the service time if you tell them when they service it. If you do your own service then it still need to be reset else you will see the service prompt when its not needed. If you get it serviced by a non VW then they will have ro reset the service interval with VAG-COM.

I had the 3 year or 30k service plan which ever comes first so you get a service every 10k or 1 year which ever comes first. Its only £250 when they can charge £150 for a service when they only change the oil and filter. So while its under warranty for 3 years I thought thats the cheapest option.

My mate just had his first service on his 1 yr old Scirocco GT oil burner at 5,000 miles and he was told by the VW garage they didn't need to change the oil - and he was chuffed as hell about this

That's until I told him the car should be on time and distance and he was driving on oil full of contaminants due to the short journeys he was doing. He must be mad!

Evening from what I have been told by the service dept it could be due a service at anytime the clue is in the regime upto 20000 miles or two years, oil is monitored so light could come on anytime depending on what the quality of the oil is like. Stop start of course more engine wear so light would come on sooner
