Hi All . . .

Wondering if someone could tell me whats happening . . . :S

A good couple of months back, my car used to start . . . and run fine! But when I was to turn the engine off to fill up with petrol for example, It would turn over, start, but then would just cut out. No matter how much id put my foot on the gas pedal, its like it just looses all power and dies. But if I try it about 3 - 5 times, it eventually starts.I changed the hose pipes going to the manifold and the ECU, and engine temp sensor and things started looking up, it very very rarely done it again.

About a week ago I had to buy a new battery as the one I had was nackered! :( But ever since I have changed it, the old problem has come back again, but worse than it was before! any one have any ideas please?

It mostly happens when the engine is hot.

Another thing that happens is that when the car is in neutral , waiting at traffic lights for example, My car would just rev itself, reaching at about 2500 - 3000. and now and again it reaches 4000.

People think I want to race them all the time haa.

If anyone has any ideas please tell

thanks :)

sounds like a few separate issues, 1st sounds like the immobiliser kicking in, or perhaps faulty crank sensor. 2nd issue sounds like air leak or problem with the throttle position sensor, check the wiring behind the inlet for damage it bakes hard and brittle over time due to exhaust heat.

ideally get vag-com on it and see what it says

UPDATE! - since the post I give the Throttle body a clean - kind of helped for one day. But then the car went back to cutting out then not starting. I started the car the other morning . . . got 1 minute down the road and it cut out. and will not start atall now. It hasn't started since Monday 25th :-(

Had to pay for someone to come to my car with VagCom (£25) today because I couldn't find no-one who had an OBD I computer . . .

He told me that the only error codes showing was one for the ECU Temp Sensor (which I changed a couple of months back anyway! :@ ) But he said he couldn't understand why my car would not start!

He said something about wanting to check the timing. I pulled back the black plastic cover that surrounds the timing belt and it's still there and connected. So I dunno what the problem is now! Just will not start atal. It turns over but will not bite.

The bloke mentioned nothing about the computer saying anything other than the ecu temp sensor, but he said it shouldnt stop the car from starting, but can cause it to cut out due to it keeping the choke on or something

Any ideas? heellppp :(

Have you tried the coil? Could be faulty especially with the cold and damp weather we are having lately.

If it was a faulty coil would it have showed up on VagCom when it failed to start?

I dont think it is the coil because there is quite a healthy spark getting to the spark plugs . . . but its like the petrol and the sparks aint meeting at the same time? :S

Coilpack won't show on vagcom. If it's getting a GOOD spark then it's working though. Is the engine getting fuel? Maybe a blocked fuel line or clogged filter?

We disconnected the fuel line that looks as if it goes into the side of the manifold . . .
Turned the engine over and the petrol was pumping out so I dont think there is a lack of petrol getting to the spark plugs. Had quite a bit of pressure on the fuel line. Spark plugs are in okay-ish condition too. Wasnt too dirty like, and as I said they still got a good spark to them.

You referring to the air filter?

Agreed, but might also be your crank position sensor, they are a known weak point and can faill over time due to corroding wires.

Would this show on VagCom? lol. Sorry Im not quite sure on what sort of problems would show when conected to the computer? :)

I did try to have a little look at the wires for the crank, but couldnt manage to see to be honest
