Sat Nav & Bluetooth solution
« on: 17 October 2010, 13:45 »
So am about to get nearly new GTD which has RCD520 and aftermarket Parrot bluetooth.

I see that VW dealers are doing special deal on aftermarket Kenwood unit made specifically for VAG as detailed here:

http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/car/vw

My other options would be to go for the Zenec unit which is much discussed

http://www.zenec.com/en/products/ego/volkswagen-seat/ze-nc2010/

..or to upgrade to RNS520 & Fiscon bluetooth.

All 3 options will cost me circa £1k, but have checked on ebay and used RCD units fetch about £300 - 400 so that will offset slightly.

My inclination is to go for the Kenwood as it has integrated bluetooth and full postcode entry. As it will be fitted by VW main dealer also shouldn't affect warranty in any way and can of course pop it back to them if any probs.

Thoughts please ?!

Here's a thread on the subject, although mk5 related assuming you've not already seen it:

Or you could buy an RNS 510 from mortygttdi like a lot of members here have (self included). Easy to fit, just needs coding which Darren or another member on here will be able to do for you.

For all the reasons you have said, most people would be inclined to go for the Kenwood you will also get a 2 years warranty as an approved VW part. Plus the ability to go back to the dealer should you have any issues.

The Zenec Screen is not a patch on the RNS510*. I does not have a 30 GB hard drive either and looks and is cheap.
From the specs the Kenwood does not have a hard drive either and its screen is not as good as the LED screen of the RNS510*.
Retro-fit the RNS510* and be happy.

What are my options if I go for aftermarket RNS510 and Fiscon bluetooth? How much would that option set me back.

Appears that although a great match, the Kenwood requires additional can bus to integrate with MFSW, can anyone confirm.

Would probably cost you somewhere around £550-600 for the RNS510 and about £300 for the Fiscon Basic Plus.

I'm not a big fan of that Kenwood thing... looks a bit too... Aftermarket somehow.

Is there a reason you want fiscon kit rather than the new VW kit that seems compatiable with most phones?

I got that kit fitted today by Darren, works perfectly with the RNS510 :)
