Cheapest option - sell the 8v and buy a 16v/vr6. Its been covered many times on here mate, and the usual outcome is that you do it for yourself as a learning curve, in which case,  pick an engine and make it fit. Or if you want a power increase then it would be far easier/cheaper to just sell up and buy the one you want.

Or buy a 16v engine for a couple of hundred ££ or buy a 16v being sold as spares for around £400 or so and book a weekend off work.

1.8t conversion is expensive and there's more electronics involved. The 16v route is straight forward and easy to acquire.

TBH it's easier to buy a 16v but you've done a swap yeah?

So speaking from experience, you'd deffo do it again if you could go back in time, yeah?

So it's worth it.

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

What I can never understand is people buying a 8v then wanting to make it quicker, why not buy a quicker version in the 1st place.
