Later mk2's had a different wiring loom and I believe it makes the conversion easier.

i have, but its running kjet meaning it is likely to explode and kill everyone within a 1 mile radius if revved over 6.5k

wiring was pretty easy though, all plugged straight in apart from one of the idle control module wires, a few of the instrument wires and another which i have forgotten which need splicing into the existing loom

I've asked loads about this, the general concensus is that it's better to use the mk3 ABF OEM management engine loom spliced into the back of mk2 fuse box. There are how to guides getting it running on Kjet. Just search on here or google ABF conversion

You don't own a Mk2, you support it.

if you're doign bodies it doesnt matter what car you get, thewiring will need splicing no matter what.  earlier the better really as they're lighter than the big bumper cars. if going oem managment 90spec makes it easier, but pre-90 isnt too hard really. worst case I can make a conversion loom for you if you dont fancy it? but my fusebox faq covers the pins on fusebox, and i have loads of diagrams which will help you with the conversion

the early mk2s had a ce1 loom amd the later ones had a ce2b loom though so would i get a later mk2 fusebox and plug the abf into it?

aye up to 90 they had ce1 and after that it was ce2. can be a delay between manufacture and being sold so check the hazard switch, best way to know for sure. hazard on dash = ce1, hazard on column = ce2. mk3 golf uses ce2 fusebox as well, hence 99% plug n play.  some bits differ like the wiper motor loom is a lot shorter on mk3, plus some have the lighting loom combined into engine loom. mk2 has seperate lighting loom which you leave in the car when doing engine swap.
