Bluetooth options VW Touch, TomTom
« on: 15 October 2010, 16:40 »
OK, No factory bluetooth, Iphone with big phonebook, RCD310, Need satnav and BT? Iphone will go in armrest to provide IPOD and charge, so screen not available to see who is calling or to call from.

VW Satnav not 7 digit which is weird ..its 2010 for goodness sake, so no to full RNS510 satnav upgrade.

Could do Retro factory BT, but with Iphone attached in glove box is trying to search large phone book on DIS too painful to be of use?

Options seem to be VW bluetooth touch + a tomtom or good tomtom with handsfree.

I believe that TomTom will allow full phonebook search and will recognise incoming callers. Upside is everything in one unit, but call mic quality probably not great, sound not through stereo and doesn't mute stereo

VW touch apparently (?) good quality and works well in muting and taking calls, but downside is looks aftermarket and still have to add a tomtom, so two add on screens floating around the dash.

Anyone evangelical about the VW touch or tomtom handsfree? :undecided

Been mentioned by a few folk in the know that a new firmware should be out soon for the RNS510 that will allow 7 digit postcode.

To be honest I went from a TomTom to the RNS and thought I'd miss a full postcode search but haven't missed it once. When you put half the postcode in it then gives you all the roads that are available.

Thanks

Yes I understand it will get you to the road, but living out in the sticks the road can be five miles long and houses not numbered. I had a five digit SatNav some years ago and whilst it wasn't useless, it often ended up with a phone call when I had got to 1/2 mile from the destination.
