Picked my new wheels up this morning. What and early bloody start though - I met the guy I brought them off at a service station in Leatherhead at 6am this morning (true drug dealer style)....... So I've been up since 5am this morning....... yawn, yawn

......... anyway, well chuffed with the wheels. They are absolutely mint and still boxed from when they were recently refurbed. The guy turned up in a fully loaded Mk5 GTI. I asked him why he was selling the wheels and apparently he needed the cash after a 'botched re-map' which messed up his engine and cost him a small fortune to put right ( so there’s a warning to us all ).

The guy even handed me some nice brand new VW centre caps....... @ £350-00 well pleased with my winter wheel purchase

Tyres next now..... and an early night tonight zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzz

These wheels certainly look very nice looking and would suit a GTI perfectly. Rep wheels worry me a bit though with regard to safety and I wouldn't be confident that the diamond cut finish would last that long..... however at £350-00 they may well be worth a punt.

My very dearest, wonderful Martin,
I completely understand your deep emotional tie with those rather beautiful Interlagos wheels.
It can be so distressful when their replacements are so difficult to love.
I fully understand and appreciate the trauma for your sad loss.
You can count on my shoulders to weep uncontrolably on.
With deepest affection and unreserved sympathy,
Your ever loving friend and constant companion,
Asker

Martin,

I am also considering fitting interlagos to a mk6 gti. Could you advise me what size of tyres were on yours and did you have any issues with rubbing or was there a need for any wheel arch mods. I noticed some comments elsewhere re the fronts protruding slightly. Anything else i should consider before spending the cash ?. Thanks.

I brought the interlagos alloys from a rocco owner and therefore they had the original stock tyres on which were 235/40/18's which were absoulataly fine on the Golf. Ideally 225 tyres would be better suited to the car. Very rarely did I experience any rubbing. I think this only happened over a speed bump once or twice if I didn't take it slow enough. But never enough to be concerned about.

The wheels do extended past the front wheel arche by approximatly 13mm. A look which took a while to get used to and one which I didn't really like if I'm completly honest (however that's because I new it was there if you see what I mean). But by fitting 225 tyres the extension would be hardly noticable so I'm told. The interlagos wheels fill the back wheels arhes perfectly (better than the Monza shadows in my opionion).

What colour car are you thinking of fitting them to?? Imo I think they suit the darker coloured cars better. I did flirt with the idea of having mine re-finished in anthractite which probably would have looked the buisness ( but I chickened out )....  :embarassed:

I sold my interlagos alloys and tyres of a bit cheap at £550-00 as they were mint and had 3 very good tyres and 1 brand new tyre. I've since learned the price should have been around £700-800. But there you go..... you live and learn I guess !

Thanks Martin, I am fitting them to a carbon GTI, I agree they suit a dark coloured car better, I do also like the sound of them being in anthracite. The rear tyres are still good but the ones that were on the front will need changed so sounds like the best option will be to go with the 225s on the front which should any potential for rubbing issues. Thanks for your input.
