driveshafts which fit?
« on: 14 October 2010, 20:53 »
What i want to know is will vr6/16v or even tdi driveshafts fit my 8v? and is there any benefit of replacing them with any of the above? I was thinking maybe the vr6 and tdi driveshafts are tougher due to more torque etc but i dont know  :undecided: . and before you ask why? Well basically both mine need replacing as both cv's are fooked etc and mot soon  plus i cant be bothered replacing seperate parts i want complete units! so i  just thought i may as well see what the crack is if others are stronger and fit as i have money and my cars very low

Think inner drive shaft is different, outer is the same or vice versa. I've got 8v driveshafts for sale though

MK3 GTI 8v, 16v and vr6 shafts are all the same length and will fit fine. no benefit to swapping unless your cvs are dead.  1.8-2.0 4stud (except diesel non-turbo) shafts also fit but you need to change the outer cvs for 5 stud ones

Isn't one of the shafts shorter due to the 02A box?

ok cheers people i would have thought some may have been tougher  :undecided: but even though there not might aswell just replace them with my other car im breaking as i have 2 8v gti's il just swap them haha

i was hoping to prevent damage for longer as my car sits low on coilys and its known to reck them quicker but if none are stronger i will continue to run with 8v stuff :D maybe 16v if i change the engine in the spring :D
