I go through stages.
Some times I think to my self, I am happy with how the car is. Im not going to spend any thing on her unless its to fix a major fualt/put fuel in it.

Il then be on the forums scouring through, and see something come up at a price I would be happy to pay. That pretty much f**ks up the whole plan for not spending money. Everyone knows then when you buy one part, your probably going to need to buy another 5 bits to make it fit/work. It keeps spiralling on from there really every month!

Not to mention I usualy have times where I know exactly what I want and how I want to do it. I usualy just go out and do it and spend what ever I need to spend in order to achieve it. Be it immediately, or over a long period of time.

  • Sam I am
Its the pub that catches me out, it drives me mad. I will look at somthing nice for my car for say £100 and argue with myself that its too much but then i will go out every night of the week for a swift half plus a lil extra at the weekends and i have spent near enough that £100 that i couldnt justify spending and all on funky tasting water

How on earth do you guys manage to have lots of money off of your loans to spend on cars!

I just about scrape through to cover everything. My car gets things brought for it after I've saved an awful lot of money up (as it's usually something big and expensive that's gone) I have a kind of running car fund that I add money in to when I have some spare.

I don't have my car here in Southampton so I also save on fuel expenses. Yay!

Are you a student too then? Seems you are doing ok with your project, bbs wheels etc

Similar to you, car stuff comes from savings, never loan unless in a real emergency i.e something major has broken. Bills get paid first though obviously and anything left over might go on the car. I go without other stuff that perhaps some others would buy i.e clothes, technology etc. I don't really do clubs, and the pubs around me are cheap as chips

I stop myself spending money on it by spending all my money on it,I then have no money left to spend on it thus stopping me spending money on it!

Yeah I am a student. The majority of my golf was bankrolled by selling my 206 but the more recent stuff has been brought through me working my bum off and inspired by the realisation that an awful lot on the car was perished, things such as brake lines and rear suspension and whatnot.

Bloody car!! I see so often people buying so much with their student loans and I have no idea how they do it! I guess some people do get more loan so that might explain it.

There is something much more satisfying about spending money for things that the car does not desperately need compared with spending money to fix something that broke.

Either way, as a Yorkshireman, I still have difficulty prising the money out of myself!!

i find it quite easy,  i aquires myself some cheep and nasty shed to drive around in daily that only ever needs the odd 2nd hand tyer and occasional set of brake pads then i'll spend about a grand on stuff for the golf but never actualy get round to fitting it because i'm to busy fixing or building cars for other people
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Fall out of love with your car lol, thats what Ive kind of done, which isnt good when it isnt running, I find myself working on it for 30 mins, getting stuck then not being arsed any more  When it fires up and ive mapped it then sure Ill fall in love again!

Plus we may as well be flushing our money down the toilet is enough to stop me over spending lol!
