  • VAG Parts SNOB!!!
I haven't owned a golf very long but I'm finding it an expensive task. Obviously as I haven't owned it very long my impulse / novelty buying will soon wear off (I hope)!

If you think a MK2 Golf is Expensive you wanna try and keep an Audi S2 Coupe on the road....

When you can get parts they are 5 times the price of VW's.... Not to mention 15 MPG...

High Quality Chrome & Black Enamel Golf GTI Keyring's.

yeh, i think i'm the odd one out in my group of friends. I worked through uni to support my lifestyle. Then within 1 year i'd paid off my student loan in full.

Having a bit of foresight and common sense when it comes to spending is what our country needs!

too true, but try running 2 cars (one of which is an on-going project, the other is a mk3 that refuses to die), a mortgage, and now a mrs who currently isnt in work....  :lipsrsealed:

i think its been a mix of luck and common sense so far.

Hopefully putting this into writing will help me out a bit, but I've got student loans, and the temptation to kit my car out with a set of ATS Cups, an ABF engine drop in, Porsche tombstone fronts.....it's killing me. The worst part is the car still has some work that needs doing before it's back up to scratch, which I think "if I spend money doing that, then I can buy nice stuff for it" and try and justify it to myself! I just sit in most of my lecturers doodling car stuff, but I need to save my loan. I can't be the only person having this problem?

Have get your mrs up the spout three times

I like the line Neo Badness has on his sig, goes something like 'I spend my money on petrol and parts, the rest I waste'. Sums it up nicely.

It does require a bit of sense, you have to look at what money you have and what you need to spend to ensure a suitable standard of living. I spend a bit of my wage on parts for my car every month, as I do with my other main hobby, but I have to limit it and not forget what else I want to achieve. Meaning, I need enough left over for fun, like fuel for pleasure drives, weekends out/away, race entries (MTB), holidays etc. So budget!

Just remember, if you car is working, and you dont really have the money to spare, then you dont need the parts!

How on earth do you guys manage to have lots of money off of your loans to spend on cars!

I just about scrape through to cover everything. My car gets things brought for it after I've saved an awful lot of money up (as it's usually something big and expensive that's gone) I have a kind of running car fund that I add money in to when I have some spare.

I don't have my car here in Southampton so I also save on fuel expenses. Yay!
