radiator hose question
« on: 12 October 2010, 17:05 »
What Radiators are ABF mk2s running, standard 16v ones? Well inlet and outlet on the driver side oppossed to the abf being passenger side inlets and outlets?

Just ask as Ive had to fit an ABF front water outlet, so know my hoses doesnt go back on. Is there a oe item that fits at all, or will I need to get some silicone and pipe and 2 45 bends?

If you're keeping your old rad you need to use the old mk2 hoses, you might have to chop them a little to fit. for the bottom hose change the thermostat housing flange for a mk2 one and the bottom hose fits straight on.  worth having the flange off so you can put a new stat in anyway.

top hose i find on 1.8 8v rads the top hose pretty much fits straight on after its cut down a little, 16v rad you might have to go hose hunting

last set o hoses i bought from him were really crap, top hose bulged when you revved the engine. though i dont think they were topran makle as per the linky above, topran usually make good gear. if it was me id be down the scrappy being a pikey lookin at mk3s to pinch bits off

hmm ok cheers, The 16v one is quite close but the flange ppints down a bit, yer the rads brand new so just going to buy some silicone hose ( unless you get the same oe stuff and get angles for them ?) Then buy some angles.

no because by the time i noticed the problem it was a couple months later! was while it was being rolling roaded. quite scary watching the hose get bigger and bigger as he put the boot in

pretty sure my hoses didn't have any labling at all, so not same as the topran stuff in the linky. as iu say toprad gear is usually top notch. trouble is if the old hoses wont fit then neither will the new ones, so a bit of hunting at the scrappy is what i would be doing

fair play mate I've done something simular with an MAF sensor!
I've used Smaco on the Rallye and the fitting was sh!t even though it was only two pipes just not  designed for Rallye correctly. Had to cut here and there but no bulging! For that kinda of money you expect perfection but just proves nothing like nicking VAG pipes from a MK3
