Timing belt issue.

Right, just had a local mechanic out to repair a rocker cover leak on my car, but afterwards he told me , my timing belt was very loose and would need tightening up ect.

I only had a new one fitted though less than 2 months ago, so would it really by loose already? Or is the mechanic trying to get more business out of me?

I have used him 2 times in the past and always got the work done well, but seems weird that I would have problems with my timing belt so quickly.

Take it back to where you had the belt fitted and get them to check it!

No it should not be loose!

I would get it checked asap, if it loose it could jump and damage the engine.

Plan to get it checked out tomorrow at the same place they did it.

Been around two months, but hoping they will do it for free. As won't be hard to do a visual check, I am guessing.

Belt shouldn't be loose, what engine is it?

It's the Gti 16v.

Actually got the timing belt fitted July 1st.

So not to sure if the garage will even look at it and fix it for free, if it is loose.

It probably hasn't been tensioner properly.

If the two arrows don't line up then the belt will go be loose.

So if I go and look at that now, and mine looks as the same in the image, the belt should be fine?

If you have the type of tensioner fitted yes.
I think only early ones are different.
Its easy to check, if in doubt try and post a pic.

Cool, will go look at it now. Seeing as it was fitted in July, I am guessing it will be a new one, hopefully like the pic.

One more question before I go down now to check, to look at tensioner, do I just undo some bolts to get to it? As I don't want to mess it more if I do something wrong.
