They usually arent a problem if looked after properly, if you rag it while cold or shut the engine off while still hot then you're going to knacker it, same with any forced induction engine. You should get your mates to have their cars looked at, something seriously wrong if she says your car feels quicker. You could even suggest something that may be wrong, usual faults like temp sender, MAF, coil packs.. you should have picked up a fair bit by now
