Right-o! My cars due its MOT in under a month so iv got a couple of questions.

1) Ive got a small hole under the car near the jacking point at the front, probably only big enough to fit 3 fingertips into it, im guessing this would be an MOT failure yeah? its not all the way through as the interior is still bone dry...would it be possible to fix this with bodyfiller or does it definately need welding?

2) if i put my car in for its MOT early, im guessing that invalidates its previous MOT certificate so if i failed, i couldnt drive it anywhere?


can you tell iv never had to MOT a car before? lol

Yeah it would fail on that and would deffo need welding, not a big job though.

As for the 2nd question - its a bit of a grey area. :laugh:

1) yes needs welding

2) I believe yes if it fails it invalidates its previous MOT certificate (however it is a grey area)

dammit lol. how much to put it into a garage for a quick spot of welding do ya reckon? pretty sure all it needs is that hole done, the suspension strut changed, top mounts relaced and cv boots changed and it should pass...gonna be a busy couple of weeks i reckon

might be an idea actually. and then because im lazy, i might just buy the strut, top mounts and cv boots and get a quote to have them all done for me.  :evil:

Mine has a hole that I could fit the tip of the pinky finger on the sill. Would that still fail MOT? Might cut the section, treat the rust and weld over it before my MOT  :undecided:

my initial plan for the short term was simply to pack it full of body filler and paint it with the stone chip paint. I really dont want to have to spend hundreds on bloody welding as i dont have the funds for those antics, being a student n all!

Don't think welding will cost much mate. I had my old exhaust welded a while back and it cost £20. There was quite a lot of welding needed on it too. I think a square of metal and some welding won't cost any more than £40 really.

Mine had a little patch done on the sill and it cost £40 and that was at the most expensive garage in town!
