there are more than 2! loads of em unfortunately. aircon ones are different, vr6 ones also different. if its just an 8v without a/c you can just remake your fan loom to bypass the thing, the only extra function it offers is rad fan after-run which you can do without. alternatively find a mk2 golf relay and wire that in. if you dont want to chop the plug you could bridge the relavant wires with a short jumper wire taped into position, that would at least get the fan system working till you find another control unit
