Lets not turn this into a FWD v 4WD argument. After all it’s down to tyre grip in corners unless he mashed the throttle mid corner that’s the only time 4wd will give you more lateral grip as it takes the power away, (ESP and traction control also do this) 4WD is not a magic worker and defies the laws of physics.
Its plane to see to me what happened here, he lost grip from the tyres due to the road conditions and by such a large margin, ESP could not pull it back into line. It would have happened exactly the same in a 4WD version.

The poor guy has crashed his car.
His front wheels lost grip and even if it was 4WD the result would probably have been the same but maybe not as bad.
I had nightmares about this last night.

That's exacly true. ESC never kicked in. I was just a passenger. I've been through that corner every day for the last 3 years, in the rain and winter as well. What fooled me this time was the dry roads everwhere except that place. I didn't see that until it was too late. I thought 'Oh, a slide, that's new' and then I saw the other car.

If the other car wasn't there (2 seconds either way) I would have probably put it into the hedge on the other side or ESC could have reacted in the end and it would be just brown pant's moment. But on the other hand if I hit the poor guy not on this wheel but a little bit further back... I don't even want to think about it.

Fair play to you holding your hands up and saying it was your fault Radek. Nearly every thread I've read on various forum where someone has had an accident had blamed someone or something else. It's just one of those unfortunate incidents though, we're all human. Thankfully everyone is in one piece.

As already suggested though, make sure the car is written off, you don't want that car back again as it will never be the same.

Sorry about the car - it brings a tear to my eye!
As many others have said... the car is a material object and can be replaced without any major problems.  At least no one was seriously hurt.

I know exactly how you feel by the way...

You have to love how modern cars absorb impacts though, the rear quarter window isn't even damaged!

God help us lot in MK2s.

Cars are designed to crumple now-a-days!  That was from a guy running into the rear of the car - yet the side took the brunt of it.
