engine swap / tuning ideas.

hi guys,

Ive got a mk2 3 door 8v gti.

i havent actually driven it on the road yet im banned from driving untill the 31st of october. however i know it wont be quick enough for me.

im looking for ideas and information about the varying levels of difficulty of a few engine swaps or some power figures from tuned 8v cars.

budget i guess for the conversion including buying the engine but doing the majority of the work myself is realistically going to be about 2k all in.  and im looking for something that will see mid- high 14 second passes up the strip. (i have a bet on with a m8 in a 1780 crossflow powered mk2 escort)

ideas so far  are

XE - havent seen one ina golf but if it fits in a cinqucento it should fit
1.9tdi  because torque is good
1.8t how much power do they make ?
4age   again has it been done ?  theres a guy running a 1600 4 age with over 400bhp in an escort atm

give me some more ideas and any info on these conversions please guys

1.8t is a good base and with mods make excellent power, also it has been done so lots of info available

XE has been done in a mk2 before but its uncommon and not 100% sure if there are any in the uk, why bother with an xe though, plenty of better engines out there

XE has been done, it's been fitted to most things under the sun by now.    thought about chucking one in mine as had a tweeked one in the shed but not enough ponies for the hasstel.

a built 1.8T  is the easyest way to get meany ponies under the bonnet.
