Oil pressure warning buzzer and Side/Headlights.
« on: 27 January 2005, 23:20 »
Can anyone please advise if there is some connection between the Oil Pressure warning buzzer and the side/headlight switch on the Mk2 GTi.
The car's Gemel Cat1 Alarm/Immobiliser developed a fault approx. 10 days ago which I hav'nt had time to look into yet. A few days later I used the car at night and when I switched on the lights the warning buzzer sounded although the oil pressure warning light stays off, the oil level is fine and I don't suspect the oil pressure is actually low at all, the buzzer stays on constantly as long as the side/headlights are on.
I'm sure these two problems are connected but I'm puzzled as to why the lights and buzzer would be linked together.?
The alarm was fitted to the car when I bought it and I don't have any instructions, I've thought about the simple solution of the alarm just needing a re-set and I've tried pressing the button on the fob twice/three times and holding down the button for a few seconds but no luck.
Any ideas as to what the problem could be before I start investigating this at the weekend (weather permitting). Thanks in advance.

Could be an earthing problem, so when you switch the headlights on theres a voltage leak somewhere that activates the buzzer circuit.

Check the earth lead that goes from the rocker cover to under the coil is secure for starters, and also check all the oil temp/pressure switch wires are clean and in good condition.

I know this sounds funny , but it isnt a lights left on warning buzzer is it ?

Does it only come on when the ignition is off ?

Thanks for that guys, I'll check the wires and connections from the oil pressure senders and the earth strap first of all when I get time 2moro.
No it's def. not a lights left on warning buzzer, as far as I'm aware only the Mk5 GTi has this fitted, I've done a search on google but nothing has come up regarding this problem.
Thanks anyhow.

I'll take that back as it was most def. a lights left on warning buzzer, a cheap looking tacky little thing fitted to the car by a previous owner that has went "belly-up" at the same time as my alarm problem and sounding nearly the same. (Well done adyh) So I still have the alarm to sort but it looks like a job for a Auto Electrician as there is no re-set button on the main unit which I found.

Got the alarm sorted too, again I had a part to play in the trouble It caused me.
It took me around 4-5 hrs. to clean the car's interior when I bought it due to the previous owner keeping it looking like a shed inside, whilst doing this I moved the Interior Light and the Boot Light switches to the "Off" position as the doors and tailgate were open. I forgot to switch them back over and this was causing the Alarm to fail when arming itself.

Just thought I'd let you all know as I'm sure I'll not be the last to do it.
