« on: 07 October 2010, 22:13 »
Bought my (dream car) March 07 and it's done 10,125
Guys at work reckon I keep it wrapped up in cotton wool and joke when the see me out in it - it honestly still smells new!
Anyone done less?

My intention was to buy a Pirelli and keep it in a cacoon with delivery miles on, but other things prevented me from doing that.

I WILL be doing the same with the ED40, over whatever it will be called.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

You bought it new in March 07 and have done 10k. For the same of arguments sake lets just say thats just over 3k a years mileage.

You my friend need your head examined. I take it you have another car? If so why are you not using the GTI !!?

Cars are meant to be driven and not stored, always make me sad when people buy nice cars and then dont use them, cant really see the point in having it  :undecided:

You wouldn't approved of my Mk2 ownership then. 740miles in 2 years

If you don't think of it as a car, but instead something nice to own it can be put into perspective. My Mum and Dad have collected a fair few antiques over the years. They serve no purpose at all, but they like having them.

I suppose its everyone to their own. If I was to buy a new car at 22k or there abouts Id use it a damm sight more than 3k a year. I suppose it all comes donw to how well off you are aswell. If I had loads of money I would also have loads of cars of which some would hardly get used but would be there should I want to use them.

Id also love a MK2 for weekends but just cant afford it :(

Tried for years to find a mint MK2 to keep and enjoy but never found 1
So now that I've got my dream GTi it only gets driven for pleasure - we have a polo for school/shopping runs
Only 3k a year but trust me I've thouroughly enjoyed every 1
No intention of ever selling it so it's my future classic 1 owner low milage FVWSH holy grail MKV

It's great to see that people still take car of their cars like this. I understand Alan's point of buying the car to drive and I'm inclined to agree with him, but since the mk5 was released in a time with a lot of money flying about sooo many of them were just bought, abused and sold on. It's good to know that there are still minters out there
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

My march 07 Ed30 has now done 4800 miles iirc. I bought it last year from an elderly couple that didn't like to drive it as it had too much power; so they got a honda jazz and kept the ed30 in the garage for 2 years until I got it.
