genuine ones will have a VAG part number somewhere and moulding lines down each corner of the black textured section, as mr blue pointed out

I've had an email this morning from someone breaking a white MK2 Golf (which is a shame, do think they look lovely!) but hopefully I can get my mits on the bumper with all the proper vw fog lights etc.

Waiting on pics now, atleast with my new knowledge I can check it's genuine.

just finished replacing the front ( big ) bumper with one i picked up from vw heritage....

had the same problems as you ....trying to find a good condition non scratched original one...

the aftermarket look ok until you come to fit.....if you use your original vw fogs,you will have to cut

 the brackets,and re grind the fixing holes...cutting the outside edge of the bracket will allow the

fixing leg from the bumper to move into the right position when re tightening,re grinding the holes will

allow the lights to be positioned correctly..

if you use the original vw splitter,you will not get a correct fit at the corners of the bumper as the

splitter will need trimmed from the centre approx 10mm - 15mm and this will make it sit off centre..

and of course the biggest b a l l ache........the plastic is a totally different colour,against the original

blacks it looks light grey..( all that bloody money getting it prepared and painted and time faffing with

it........and it looks not so good...).im now looking for a black plastic paint to paint the upper part of

the bumper.......hope this helps.....good luck.!
