Water temp light flashing
« on: 07 October 2010, 12:07 »
The watere temp light is flashing intermittently on my 90 Mk2. There doesn't seem to be a problem with the water as the levels are fine and the temp indicator doesn't get much over half way. The light sometimes comes on from cold and other times when the temp gets to normal on the guage. Any suggestions for the cause?

I had this with mine & It was the temp sender unit...

Got a Proper VAG one and sorted It...

I would read RJ's thread on checking the coolling system in the Info & Mate section (Top of Page) before buying one, just in case its something else...

I have fingers crossed writing this - that makes typing difficult. I unplugged the blue temp sender and then replaced it. The light does not now flash but does light up on ignition so I am hoping that this has solved the problem.

You mean the one in the cluster of lights? If so it should come on when you turn the ignition on.. and then go off!!

What does the temp gauge read when the car is warmed up??

Did you top up the expansion tank with some G12 Antifreeze??

Be careful to monitor the fluid levels over the next few weeks. Could be early signs water pump is on the way out.

Yes the cluster water temp light flashes during ignition and then goes off (it was that light that was flashing). Temp guage is OK just over half way when warmed up and coolant levels are steady.
