well think that problem may be sorted now :wink:
fingers crossed it was the coil but done 15-20 miles today and no cutting out which would never normally happen :laugh:

40 miles it run fine then it started the cutting out again...waiting for a petrol pump relay to pop through the post now after reading a similar problam on another forum.

Next time it happens, unhook the wiring from the hall sender on the dizzy and reseat it - or give it a tap/wiggle - and see if it starts up?

The hall sender (if broken) can deteriorate in performance with heat, so when cold, its fine, run it for a while and it behaves unpredictably. I can also cause it to not start at all and all other sorts of random things.

Hit my project link, and go to the first page, then click the link for "spark or fuel" - follow that next time it breaks down, it might help give you an insight (rather than blindly buying parts).

Yes Ben, when it broke down and wouldnt start one of the things I did was disconect the hall sender, coil switch etc and thats when it ran ok for a while so it could be that,,are they expensive?
the problem I have now is that it cuts out when driving as per usuall but starts imediately which makes it a problem for me to find out whats wrong. :sad:

Could be crappy wiring, go through that guide of mine anyway - it will help debugging.

I got a recon Bosch dizzy with new hall sender for ~£80

have you replaced the TCI-H unit, thats the 7 pin thing in the scuttle area driver side, bolted to the ECU bracket

The tci-h is next on my list as its not too expensive from ebay but as for forking out for a new dizzy :sad:
times are hard in a big way so hope its not the hall sender. To be honest the cars falling apart round me so may have to scrap it soon :embarassed:

Replacing parts endlessly isn't great for diagnosis and is Expensive!

Without  a doubt Ben I agree, but my problem is when I want the car to cut out and not start it always does making it (imho) quite hard to diagnose a fault when everythings running. Only once a couple of weeks ago did it cut out and refuse to start which is when I found there was no spark, but no sooner had I tested the plugs and core lead it was running again..Im at a loss tbh, just hoping its the relay.
