761VG0120           SPEEDOMETER CABLE           G2 1.6 / 1.8 8v Manual 8/83 >7/92           17.50

761VG0130           SPEEDOMETER CABLE           G2 16V 8/86 >10/91           27.20

part numbers for speedo cable from GSF. is there any difference in the cable? it should be fine on the speedo side, is it just the other end that is different?? can i not buy the 8v one and replace with the current gear

Assuming the gear on yours hasn't been chewed up then yes. You might be lucky when getting it out of the gearbox side. Most times they fall off, and you need a new one.

simple solution, take yours out first.

i brought the 8v cable. my gear was in good nick so pushed it onto the new cable along with the little clip and fitted it all.

it is all working fine. i must however that the GSF cable had a sleve over the cable. this sleve was on the wrong end. it should have been on the gearbox end locked off by the two grommets instead it was near the clock side making it very hard to fit. i ended up cutting it off.

the only difference between the 2 cables is the 16v one is much longer as it has to go round the front of the 16v inlet. on mine i run the speedo cable along the bulkhead so it makes no odds which engine I have decided to fit over the years
