Cam chain/tensioner - diesel like rattle. Is it a critical fix ?

Parking the GTi today and for some reason I knocked the climate off completely and could hear a deisel like rattle. Opened the door and it the sounded fine.

Cambelt was changed back in sept but from reading other threads I'm wondering if it's the cam chain issue that seems to crop up?

Car is a sept 06 car and it's done 52k miles now with a full vwsh. Could do without a £900 bill at the moment so wondering if it's a problem or just an inconvenience?

Mine is ticky and has sounded like that for a while, I had my cambelt changed about 4k miles ago, its annoying more than anything but I have noticed no adverse effects on performance so will get it looked at on the next service.

Well if it is that noisy then I think you might be better fixing asap.

..........i got mine changed under a warranty(fought like f**k to get it done tho).Don't think it's as much as you say i thought it was around 4 to 5 hundred pounds.
