RCD 510 vs RNS 510
« on: 04 October 2010, 20:11 »
Just wondering on peoples opinion.

RCD £250 - £300
RNS £450 - £550

Rns has sat nav and Rcd has six cd changer built in. They both look the same and have touch screen. i could buy a seperate sat nav and get the cheaper option especially with the 6 cd changer because i would have to fork out for one if i bought the RNS.

What are your guys opinions. better having it all built in ?

Everybody has their own opinion. I installed a RCD510 after buying it off Ebay. I don't need a dedicated sat-nav everyday. I have one running Primo, Tom Tom or Igo8 that I move from my car to the wife's.. I also use Google Navigation on my HTC Desire if I need to.
Also the RCD510 can handle a bigger SD card than the RNS for my MP3's.

It all depends if you need the sat-nav on a regular basis.
The other reasons I got one was for the improved sound quality over the RCD 300 and to keep with the OEM looks. (I know that the after-market boys will say that you can get better sound quality elsewhere.)

I can see why people want this OEM look to their interior but surely a headunit needs to be about sound as thats its job. Aftermarket all day long chaps.

Ive got an Alpine unit in mine. There isnt much point getting upgraded speakers with an OEM unit as the OEM unit just doesnt give it out enough power to the speakers.

An aftermarket unit will give much better sound straight out the box with standard speakers as its throwing more watts to the speakers.
