Got a new toy, so it's au revoir for now :-)
« on: 04 October 2010, 09:10 »
After 18 months of fun on the forum and having you guys regularly encouranging me to empty my wallet with must-have add-ons (LED rears, RNS satnav...), my post rate has fallen off of late.

I spent the summer researching a restoration project (Triumph Spitfire, MGB...), but finally settled on this little 1998 MX5 last week. And yes, it's a UK car with the wheel on the correct side  The paint is a bit tired, especially at the front, and the brakes could do with an upgrade, but otherwise it's in excellent condition and is a hoot to drive. Nothing like the GTI, of course (in terms of gadgets, I get power steering and that's about it ) but it feels good to go back to basics and I will be keeping the GTI as a daily driver.

Anyway, thanks for all your advice over the past few months. I will continue to pop back here from time to time to see how you're all getting on. Au revoir for now

All the best mate.... The wife had a 2001 Mazda MX5 a couple of years ago and it was a great little car to drive. It will be a good car to tastefully mod and easy to work on.  It will be a nice to drive for the summers you guys get over there. I must admit whenever I drove it though, I did feel like a mobile-hairdresser

Anyway keep in touch my fellow interlagos wearer.

p.s. one last request...... can I have a close up of that poster behind the car

Congrats on your new purchase Frogster. Sorry if I've been a dick to you in the past, I hope you return soon.

p.s. those bloody alloys on that GTI (shakes head)

Froggy, I got so distraught about our separation that I forgot to bless your new purchase.

Don't worry Asker - We can stalk him on the MX5 forum's

p.s. Froggy the red bumber on the MX5 looks a different colour to the rest of the paint work...... I would consult Asker with regard to this

Hehe, I'd love to oblige, but it's a photo of my wife and my life wouldn't be worth living if she found I'd been posting it on the Internet

Thanks for all your good wishes. I don't feel like a hairdresser driving the MX5, more like an old codger in a roadster (that's why I decided to steer clear of MGs) Acceleration is a joke after the GTI, but the handling is astonishing.

I had forgotten Asker was an expert on red bumpers. Any tips on buffing up that tired paintwork?

Kev, you should see the alloys (14"!!) on the MX5  They make Monza Shadows look half decent
