Clay Bar
« on: 03 October 2010, 19:53 »
Used the valetpro clay block from waxamomo today its the first time ive clayed a car.. i used it with dodo born slippy i did it with the car wet as it says you dont have to dry the car.. Either i have perfect paint or the clay is no good.. I just didnt find it was removing much and i could still see tar spots it was just going straight over that i was then removing with my nail.. Am i doing something wrong or is this just a useless clay ?? If no good do you guys have any ideas on a budget good quality clay bar.. I love the born slippy stuff its great..

I then waxed with light fantastic and that stuff is seriously good gives a great shine.. it just didnt have much depth to it would that be better if i got some jetseal 109 ??

Cheers in advance guys

tar is a bugger sometimes... did you feel/hear it picking up anything else?

the occasional tar spot might need tar remover like autosmart tardis

did you polish before you waxed? this will give more depth

you won't get anywhere without a DA or a rotary really... lots of hard work and not much in the way of results :/

however... the AG SRP is about the ONLY AG product that I would consider using... it contains fillers so that it will mask your swirls so in this instance it could well be the right product to use

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound is worth a go before buying a rotary, i'm not going to deny it's gonna be hard work but this stuff really can correct by hand.

As Guy has said, clay won't always tar spots, sometimes something like Autosmart Tardis is required. As long as the clay is getting dirty, it is doing it's job, you should be able to feel the difference after claying, the paint will be silky smooth.

Oh and Super Resin Polish IS a good polish, it is very filler heavy and should mask a lot of the smaller/lighter swirl marks.

As for Lime Prime being a good polish, the simple answer is yes, it also has a little bit of cut so when used with a rotary or DA can remove light swirl marks. It will also leave a perfect surface for the wax to bond too.

Hope that helps a little?

Chris

Not really. I have both in my personal detailing arsenal and they are totally different machines, you really do need to know what you are doing with a rotary, i'd really suggest learning with a DA first.
