Best place to buy a RNS 510?
« on: 03 October 2010, 12:11 »
Hi all,

I have been lurking for a few months now and finally took delivery of my (almost) fully loaded Carbon Grey GTI a couple of weeks ago.

I now want to upgrade my RCD510 to RNS510 and would appreciate any recommendations of where to purchase. I remember reading about some dodgy scratched models being sold on eBay so I am a little weary. Also, is there any specific version I should be looking for? Also, has the postcode search problem been rectified yet?

Also, anyone want to purchase my RCD510?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS: The car is great but the I am finding the seating very uncomfortable. Anyone else experiencing this? I might land up having to sell it, although I'm not sure what else I would want. I figure the sat nav should add value if I do land up selling though so I may as well do it anyway.

This forum is a fantastic resource by the way!!

There are a couple of guys on here that can often source the satnavs Try a search and you will find the two threads about the group buys.

Heres one of the links http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=151791.0

What are you finding uncomfortable about the seats. They are hard to start with as is the suspension but both soften up with time.
Is the seat problem causing you whats known as golfball?

Thanks for the response

I have added a post to that group buy thread

What do you mean by golfball (nothing comes up on google). I am getting upper back pain, I think because the seats are very narrow and very hard. I have tried adjusting them to no avail. I have been on two longish journeys now and both times it has been torture.

Does nobody else have any issues with the seats? I can only find one other post complaining about them.

There was another guy who had standard Jacara cloth seats and found them unacceptably uncomfortable. He found the very expensive Recaro's perfect and was considering selling his car.

I find the seats and general driving position one of the most comfortable I've ever experienced (standard GTI cloth trim).
Hate the floor mounted pedal though.

I agree with Exonian. Totally comfortable in all aspects. This was a premier reason for my purchase.

Hi there wellcome to the forum, if it was my motor i wouldnt bother with RNS510, think its over rated TBH. If your sufering back problems then it makes sense to get these Recaro's rather than RNS510, dont waist your money on RNS up to you but I know what i would do!!

My back comes first over hifi!! Er no, the post code issue has not been sorted ether, and I was told by VW that it wouldnt???
