Well I bought it (see my sig) and it's a digifant. Goes like a bloody rocket! All I have to do is resist the temptation to start modding as it's supposed to be my daily driver. Not doing too well so far as a light Eyebrow has just arrived at work, off to the local autofactor at lunch to get some paint. Anyone know what colour that white is?

The differences between digifant and K-jet....

The 8v golf changed from K-jet to digifant in 88, on the E plate (I think).  K-jet is mechanical fuel injection, whereas Digifant2 is fully-electronic injection.  Digifant suffers from a flat-spot just above idle which we know as Digilag, but the ECU can be reprogrammed to correct this.  K-jet doesn't suffer from the same problem but you can't alter the ignition timing with k-jet, sometimes causing problems with fuel below 98ron (ie normal unleaded).

There is a marginal performance difference between the two systems, the K-jet being quicker to 60mph.

The digifant has a reprogrammable ECU so you can remove and replace chips to improve performance and remove digilag.

To look at, as already said, there are a fair few pipes coming out of the top of the airbox on the k-jet.  There is little point putting an induction kit on the k-jet, it often upsets the system.

The mk2 golf changed from having 2-piece door windows to one piece during 88, so some cars have them, some don't.

I'd go for the digi 8v, although the k-jet 16v is in a different league entirely.

Ok so now you have me confused and I'm not sure what I actually have! it's E reg and was first registered in 87! So it could be a K-Jet. It has two little hoses coming out of the side of the airbox if this helps anyone work out what it is!

RIght I've just bought a haynes manual and the pic on page 1.7 shows an "Injected engine" This has LOADS of pipes coming out of the airbox unlike mine. So I'm guissing I have a digifant.

yes you have a digi. there is a bout 8 pipes coming out of top of the airbox on a kjet


<Question for all!> just outta curiosity. do all Digi's run the later electrics. i.e. is the hazard switch on the steering column shroud???

Just to add to the confusion. Mine is an 89 with what you are describing as K-Jet. This doesn't tie in with the above.  :shocked:

Can you tell wich 1 belongs to may mate, n wich is out of a show car :evil:

these are 8v's,,,,,,,16v's only came in k-jet
