I think Polo G40 camshafts are a decent and compatible upgrade for the golf mk2 1.3 engine.

+1, well played Khare

To be fair..... any 'big block' VW engine over and above a 1.3.

Even a 1.6 with a GTI head, cam and DIY porting job on it....
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Ok i've been through this all to many times. I own a 1.6 gti. Yes its fast yes its quicker and always will be but its no fun! I might as well just go out and get sheep tattooed on my forehead. . . No offence guys. I just fancy a challenge. Simple as that.

I've already got a twin choke webber on it. I've also removed the old sh**ty inlet manifold and sectioned it into two and ported and polished it and welded it back together. That made hella difference.

The costs up to now are pretty low just because i've sourced a twin choke off my mate, and the manifold I did in work in my lunch hour and stayed on to weld her up

Just fancied chucking a cam in it now to see how much difference that makes. Gonna make my own exhaust system 4 into 2 into 1 when I get a spare weekend out of stainless.

I aprietiate you opinion guys but I want to keep the 1.3 a 1.3 and the 1.6 a 1.6. Simple as that...

"mini golf" that's a new one on me.  As .

Just something I named it,probably completly incorrect butJust an easy way to discribe the 1.3 golf

On a 1.3 a cam is going to make little or no difference as you really need headwork with bigger valves.

Ok fair enough. So even if the head is reworked, polished and ported. DIY job would you still say the eprformance gains would be limited?

Yep as the port sizes etc are small.

ah I see the usual people are being as helpful as ever!!!

The polo G40 camshaft is not usable. The 1.3 Golf has a mechanical fuel pump driven from the cam.....

Is your head hydraulic or solid tappet? as this will make a difference to the camshaft best for your application....

Club Polo is your friend with this....not many folks on here know or understand the 1.3 engine

On a 1.3 a cam is going to make little or no difference as you really need headwork with bigger valves.

Your best off getting the block decked and upping the compression to about 11.5:1.
Get the FW lightened and the crankshaft knife-edged.
Go on german Ebay and get an inlet manifold from a GK engine.
High compression pistons from a Polo GT

What Bhp are you targeting? There's a NA 1.3 i've heard with 145hp at the FW!!

You're wrong there....

The 1.3 is a far better engine than the 1.6......and has more tuning potential

Believe it or not the 1.1 engine is better still, as it has a shorter stroke, and can be bored out making the bore lager than the stroke....very revvy and much fun
