Been a bad week for my GTI

First the coolant now I've just discovered I've got a puncture. (big f**ken nail straight in the tyre). At least I know the tyre sensors are working.

Should I just replace the tyre or think about getting repaired? What's the cost and where would you recommend me going to get it repaired/replaced? I was planning on going to the local dealers. (Battersea London)

Also the other problem is that I'm currently at work and need to do a 12 mile drive home later. Should I be driving with this puncture or should I be putting the spare wheel on and getting it sorted out.

Depends where the nail has gone in.  If its in the middle of the tread then it should be repairable; too close to the sidewall and its new tyre time

I'd personally stick the spare wheel on.  If you were going about 1/2 mile to sort it I'd take a chance but being 12 miles I wouldn't take the chance personally

If it goes down on the way, they will say the sidewalls have been damaged when run flat and wont repair it. I`ve never had problems with repairs when its been in the meat of the tread.

+1 had many punctures repaired with no issues at all. So long as you haven't driven on the tyre when its very flat, cos that will end up doing damage to the side walls.

If you don't mind me asking where did you take it to get repaired? Is the local kwik fit fine or would you recommend taking it to the dealers.

I`ve used both Kwik Fit and indie tyre dealers in the past, I dont think the main VW dealers will do repairs...though maybe that depends on the dealer.

I would go local indy if it was me. They to me take much more care than big chains or dealerships.
I would change it to the spare first. I would not drive on it incase you do more damge to the tyre or wheel.

Don't take it to kwick sh*t they may damage your wheel and they are useless too!! Hope you get it sorted

Just went into the local kwik fit near my work. They said they couldn't fix it coz the nail is too close to the side wall. New tyre is my only option and they wanted £200 for a new Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyre. Is this the price I'm looking at??!!!

Going to put the spare wheel on now and try to find a cheaper place.

I'd tell them to Foxtrot Oscar. In my calculations they are basically taking £100 to fit it.
