Had one 6 months ago, before the GTI. Great MPG on the motorway, easily 100miles per 1/4 of a tank driving sensibly. £10 doesn't get you much these days but that sounds like what I used to get with constant town driving. I replaced the plugs, leads, arm and cap and coil (trying to find a cause of a mifire fault) and MPG did rise a fair bit. Would recommend a service, check for siezed brakes, tyre pressures and keep it in tip top shape. Hot air going into the engine via the induction kit will not help matters so good luck finding an airbox :)

I Get just over 60 to 10£ in a 8v gti, averaging on the mfa at 32-35mpg, that's work runs everyday, 35mile round trip with 22ish of that motorway miles.... Maybe my right foot isn't quite as heavy :D

im currently running a 1.8GL...does alright for petrol, but then i mainly do town driving with a short stint every other day on a dual carriageway...can make it go seemingly forever on 10 quid... stats say 32mpg (according to www.parkers.co.uk) but then its all dependant on how you drive it. Im possibly giving mine a run down to the borders next weekend, its a 300 mile trip, so will be interesting to see how much petrol i actually use...any more than a tank and ill be a bit upset!

haha, i ran my rears at 15 psi for a while without realising it. was wondering why it felt a bit harsh on bumps! did my tyres no end of harm!

Motorway driving in the valver is a dream ... Perfect fuel consumption and smooth driving!

But for your information ive been using my trip meter now as my fuel guage doesn't work properly and I dont have the money to sort it out at the minute, although ive done some investigation and know what the culprit is.

Basically with £15 - 13 litres of fuel I get 55-60miles.

With £10 - 8litres I get about 40-45miles.

Thing is, this is intown driving with sensible and foot down moments. Ive got 10mm leads, exhaust from catback and a K&N which all contributes to the guzzling of fuel.

EDIT: My tyres are always inflated correctly whenever i visit sainsburys ... so 29psi on rears and 32psi fronts. Cars a 5 door and I usually drive solo.

Agreed the valver is a good motorway cruiser. When I went to Spain it was excellent on fuel. Well it wasn't but the manner in which I was driving it was pretty acceptable. Normal town/country road driving I'll get 40mpg if I drive easy on the right foot, but around 35mph if I drive normally.

If I'm driving with a hurry then low 30's. If I give it some mid-high 20's.

Dubsociety, I get about the same mileage from the same quantity, so sounds about right.
