alright mate im running 205,40 17's on my golf sat on some wolfrace voodoos there the only tyres that fit which dont scrap on the arches with coilovers lowered 80mm ish fully loaded with passengers so thats a good start

But your right ive had a few punctures and dents in the inside lip of my wheels due to pot holes if my tyres get to low on the air they will actually go flat due to the gap on the rim!
but then again voodoos were renouned for being light and buckle easy generally wolfrace are pretty strong ive sorted mine by smashing the rim edge back in place with a hammer temperarely while my new wheels arrive im sure they will cope through the winter and no doubt the roads will get worse they seem to be sorting the roads out slower than the winters are coming messing them up again lol
aslong as your suspension is good and there pumped up correct im sure you will be fine running those tyres good brands are also better i.e toyo's prada's pirelli etc

or try 205,45's or 225,45's bigger walls and wider spread the load more
