MK2 8v Starting problem

If it doesnt catch and fire up immediatly it can only be started by spinning it and flooring the throttle.  This usually takes about 15 secs of cranking.

Oh, and when it does fire it takes some encoragement and runs rough as hell for a minute or so.  Have checked through ignition circuit and replaced the coolant sensor. Dizzy and rotor seem ok HT's are a bit long in the tooth but dont arc or cause any issues normally.

Its a digi by the way,

Will this car ever let me have a weekend out of the bonnet  :sad:

check your static ignition timing, could be slighty out.

They are the classic sypmtoms for worn 'drippy' injectors in a k-jet (basically flooded). Trouble is yours is digi and I'm not aware of them suffering with the same problem :undecided: Anyone know if they are prone to it too?

Injectors are injectors, they can leak if they're knackered :smiley:

Whilst its running wiggle the injectors to see if the idle changes, if it does the injector seals are knackered.  Wouldn't cause a problem with starting but worth checking while you're looking at them  :wink:

I would just replace the dizzy cap & rotor arm with proper Bosch items even if they look OK not much to buy. If it doesn't help keep the old ones as spares :smiley:

Have had a chance to go though it and have set the timing, was a bit retarded so sorted that out.  Leads were a bit old so changed them as well.  Started first time and settled down next time I started from cold.

Came back a few hours later, same problem again.  Have not done the cap and rotor yet, they both seem good can this cause the problem if they're more bocsh?

Also if it is the injectors will running injector cleaner through them help.

I had the same on the girlfrinds AX, was reluctant to start from cold.  Didn't help that it had a choke so we would be fiddling with that and eventually it would flood.

Replaced the cap and rotor arm and now it starts every time  :smiley:

The ones on there look pretty new but dont think they are bosch, gotta be worth a try if the alternative now is the injectors :smiley:

digifarts have an Idle Stabilization Valve dont they? work checking to see if that is operating correctly

i assume it works the same as the 16v ISV and u can feel it buzzing when the ignition is on

ISV seems fine cleaned it out the other day once its running its ok.
