Front wiper motor/spindle seize issue...
« on: 26 September 2010, 18:33 »
Hi, Intermittently over the past few weeks I've had an issue with my windscreen wipers going very slow and on two occasions stopping.  After trawling the net, it looks like it's a common problem with Mk IV and other Golfs.

I'm planning on buying a used wiper motor and linkage from ebay and having a go at fitting myself.  I have a couple of questions though.

Can anyone tell me what the part No is for the wiper motor and linkage "I have a 2000 GTi-T"  I think there are different part No's depending on the age.

Can anyone please point me to instructions on how to remove the plastic panel at the base of the windscreen, I believe it's a pain to remove.

Thanks in advance...

Before buying anything, you can confirm if it is the spindle.

Pop off the linkages and try and move the wiper blade by hand - if its still, you know its the spindle, if not, the motor is dying.

If it is the spindle is, remove the assembly, pull the spindle out, sand it down lightly and sand the inside, grease up with copper-slip and re-assemble.

Hi,

Thanks for the response.  Does anyone know of any instructions for removing the bottom of the windscreen plastic strip.

Thanks in advance.
