If it's parked outside in the damp with the handbrake on, it could be the rear pads binding onto the disks. Nothing to worry about really.

This is exactly what it is.

GTI mk6, 3dr Manual (Yes Manual! If I wanted a Taxi I'd hail one, not spend £1500 on one), Candy White, Full Leather, Xenons, ACC, 18", RCD510 + Dynaudio, DAB Radio, Winter Pack, Luxury Pack, Fiscon Bluetooth Plus, Golf R LED's.

Why have my pads not caressed my di(s)cs yet?

I suppose I'll have to wait for the winter for this relationship to blossom or is it not seasonal?

Hold my glhands and we'll be almost there.
Only one bump so far, unless you are offering to rear-end me.

Thanks so much everyone. It's really reassuring to hear my experience isn't unique. But you must admit it's pretty embarassing. I live in an apartment block with shared ground floor parking and I hate it when others are there and the noise causes them to stare.  :embarassed:

If it's out on the road, you may have no option but to engage the handbrake.  But at least you can get at it with jump leads.

Rolfe, not sure why you would need jump leads for a car that's brakes have stuck slightly?!

Missed out the middle bit.  If you routinely engage the handbrake in the garage, the day you find the damn thing won't start some cold morning, you are going to have a helluva job getting it out if you need to for a jump start.

Rolfe.
