2l bottom end - 1.8 head?

Hey all, basically a guy has been telling me the mk3 2l bottom end fits straight onto the 1.8 8v head and runs fine on the 1.8 ECU etc and that all the ancillaries are the same etc? Is this true?

Also does the gearbox line up fine etc?

Is there anything else il need? As i look to fit a 2l bottom end quite soon as this 1.8 engine is knackered and il get the head skimmed etc.

Also, what sort of power could be had? I was thinking lightened flywheel, balanced crank etc. Skimmed head, ported and polished with a 4-2-1 branch manifold and free flowing exhaust? And a nice induction kit lol.

someone who knows vw's will spot the 2.0 block a mile off,    the 3a is the closest looking to the pb  but it has 2.0 cast in the back of the block so you cant really hide it that well.

it dosent affect tax, insurance usally dosent do much tbh

Why bother to do the swap if your not going to declare it.
