Std suspension but lower ride?

Hi All

my golf is off the road at the moment....Pulling to the left, cant get 5th gear etc etc.....Should be on the mend in the next week or so and as the front suspension has to come out I'm considering looking into lowering again....Used to have hottuning coilovers but found them way way to harsh......Was looking at the "show me your wheels thread" and miss the lowered look so much......so just wondering if its possible to lower the car but retain the standard ride "comfort"?

Baby on the way in 7 weeks so cant have anything remotely harsh....Any ideas, budget in mind as didnt realise pram, car seat, isofix etc would cost more than the value of my valver

basically, no
the lower you go the shorter the pistons in the shocks, the shorter the travel, the stiffer the damping
unless you get ~£500 range of coilies that have adjustable damping
you might be able to run 40mm lower and retain some comfort but its really not low enough 

cheap coilies will always be really harsh, decent 60mm shocks and springs it's not crashy but still a firm ride needing bump avoidance skills when driving

Well I can say that the expensive coilovers dont give that much comfort!

40 mm shocks and springs should strike the perfect balance between looks and comfort! Thats what Im gonna do when ive finished fixing everything abd ive got a baby on the way too.

My lowered 40mm is more comfortable than standard. What I mean by that is the ride is about the same but theres no body roll, so it feals much better in the corners.
 Its all about the quality of the kit, which ofc means more money. When I see people on here talking about coilovers for £100 etc all I can think is how harsh that must be! I spent around £350-£400 all together on my suspension and its lovely

Well I can say that the expensive coilovers dont give that much comfort!

I'm with Len!!! Running Koni's on mine which are like £700 new or something (got them for a steal  )
But to be fair have got them at the stiffest damping setting which is near back breaking over potholes!
All is worth it for the look and the next corner

mine is fixed 40mm btw not coilovers £400 coilovers would be pants!

Jonnypolish if I ever make it to the UK for a forum meet up I want a ride in your car to feel the super stiff damping  I loved how hard my Vento feels on TA Technix coils and want to see what it's like when you go ever harder
