YOU CAN HAVE A GTI!!! (I think!)

I managed to get insured for ?800 on a mk2 8V when I was 18...

Was with Brentacre...Speak to Kerry...It was 4/5 years ago tho so preium may have gone up?

I just picked up the car in my sig for ?400... It came with a couple of bits in the boot which Ive sold for ?100+ on ebay... So less than ?300 and all that needs doing really is the clutch... insured for ?650 (with Brentacre, now 23)

Im sure with an extra couple of months saving you could manage it...and believe me EVERY single time I drove that car I loved it...

But if you were being sensible you'd get a 1.6 driver for around ?300 with a years T&T... insurance for around ?6-750 build up the no claims and get a GTI in a couple of years that isnt going to die in a year or two...

I would never ever  not have had my golf (if that makes sense...)I figured Total cost of Insurance+car=?1500 for the year, the chance of the car lasting the year was pretty slim, so I may aswell get the most fun/nicest/easiest to fix, source parts for/friendliest community and safest(as I found out) that I could for the money...

If you love driving...get a cheap GTI ( but do wait for the right one!!!) If your not so fussed and just want a nice car get a driver with gti trimmings and save the insurance!

Just my 3 penneth!

Thanks for all the advice.
Ive been thinking and am guna save up a little longer till iv got about 2 grand to spend that on the car and insurance, don't want to bankrupt my self totally just to have a car. Iv been on a couple of websites and heard about a pass plus scheme? said to reduce your insurance premium? Has anyone else done this or heard in some way about it?

pass plus seems like a load of bull.

Most insurance companies dont even ask for the pass plus certificate and you can just blag that you have one

First ring them up with quotes with and then without the certificate.

elephant.co.uk dirt cheap

Luckily until recently i was on my old mands trade policy but after movin away ive had to insure a car myself , try doing it like i did and find a classic car insurers that will do 17yos itll be a hard find , join club gti , loads of insurers (specialist ones) will offer you a discount if they think your not just some numpty that wants the fastest car possible at 17 , if you show a genuine love of the marque then lots see it as a bonus , also try Adrian flux , really cheap for younger drivers , thats who my little bruv is insured with hes just turned 18 and blasts about in a h reg XR2i (im trying to convert him just give me time) and pays somewhere like ?1200 a year fully comp . Hope this all helps , but no matter what you get your first car will ALLWAYS be your best , no matter how fast good bad or unreliable , your first car should b savoured n n loved

then you claim, they ask to see the certificate, you dont have it, and you suddenly realise you have to spend the next year as a prostitute, to afford the damage you have caused as they tell you you signed to say the info you gave was true to your knowlege. they never ask to see your licence either when you call for insurance but they will want to see it if you claim.
