2 liter bottom end on mk2 gti kr1800 16v
« on: 18 September 2010, 23:56 »
Im sorry if this has been posted b4, but im new 2 this site. I have got a mk2 gti 16v. when i brought my car it was a non runner. i replaced the engine with a standard kr engine n box, b'cos that was also f**ked. i have got a k and n panel filter, n a scorpion exhaust system with a dtm back box. witch i will be getting changed at some stage. i have read in performance vw and the golf plus mag that a 2liter from a mk3 bottom end bolts straight on to my 1.8 16v top end, but is it possible to bore it out to a 2.1 on a 1.8 top end? and im planning to cam it at the same time.

If so is this a good choice as I'm trying to keep the engine to look as original as possible?

pic's of my car coming soon.

it's possible to go 2.1   83mm bore and pistons  diesel cranckshaft.

wouldn't bother getting it through tsr tho.  but personaly id stay 2.0 and spend the cash on headwok  you'll go faster for it
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

+1 2.1 is not that rev happy to be honest, 2.0 is a better bet.

Nah, we're all too tight - we just do things like fitting 2.0 ABFs on electronic management.

yup thats been top favoret for a while.  building engines gets expensive an  easly sorced and replaceable out the box mk3 motor has got to be worth at least an extra 10 bhp

Thats always been an issue with threads involving motor chops they are too expensive otherwise once they find out the effort and costs to actually do it the figures are one in ten who actually go ahead and final nail in the plans is? In the end a complete transfer of a engine & loom is quicker than chopping and bore an engine :undecided:
Hell I would love Wosner pistions and forged conrods, but can I afford £150 per piston and rings? No....
Would it last No...... can I afford to declear it to insurance No..... Thats doing it myself not paying anyone!

one of the reasons the ABF is my favoret motor for a golf atm.  there cheep and they go well in stock form and there is a bit more to be had without spending loads. and your not worried about haveing fun with it because you know as and when it dose go bang it won't take much looking to find another good one at a good price.

spend £1500 + building a 2.1 stroker and you'll won't get the fun out of it as you'll worry about blowing it up to much, and you'll really sulk when it dose blow up.
